3:10 to Yuma
For years now this has been one of those movies that I *almost* rented about 679 times, but something else always trumped it at the last minute. Finally got around to watching it last night and wow.. I am only halfway through (hate having to stop a film!!) but what a great Bluray to appreciate your home theatre.
While the video quality definitely leaves a little something to be desired by today's standards, the sound mix is incredible. It has a full discrete 7.1 PCM mix and also a compressed 5.1 dolby digital EX mix. I watched with the 7.1 PCM enabled, and out of all the films ive seen that utilize that format (there arent many) this was probably the best implementation of it ive heard. The scene where the natives are firing upon the possee at night..the ricochets of the gunfire made outstanding use of the rear channels, literally giving you 360 degrees of coverage. its a very tasteful mix,
The soundtrack is also incredibly detailed, with a massive soundstage and tons of activity in the surrounds for emphasis.
I will definitely be adding this bluray to my collection, and would recommend it as a rental (at least!) to anyone
