going from SD to HD will also give you a wider colour gamut. Basically: more colours in the signal!! (although what colours your projector is displaying on your screen is an entirely different matter!)

Based on your screen size, I would also move your chair back by at least a foot. Start at 10 feet, better at 11, best at 12.

    Thanks Mike,

    Will give that a go.

How did it go with the suggestions? I'm glad you are enjoying the projector upgrade. Once 1080p, there's no going back!

    Hi Mike:

Moved the seating back, everything looks excellent, amazing difference compared to my old projector. Also, I have 7.1 fully set up with the side speakers, feels like a full 360 of sound, almost less directional than 5.1. It has quite an interesting feeling about it. I will post more about this in the receiver section later.

    Nigel,

You should be quite happy with the Sanyo, I've had 2 Sanyos so far and have loved both of them (the z2 and the z2000) I don't know if they still do, but mine both came with 3 year warranties which is nice. i had to take the z2 in once for burnt polarizers and it wasn't a hassle at all.

Currently I switched over to the Panasonic because of the auto zoom feature, but I had no complaints with the Sanyo, I ended up selling it to a friend.

    Question What about Canon projectors?

How do Canon home theatre projectors compare to to others? Good, better than most, average, poor? Any info would help.

Hello RMcCarthy! As far as I am aware Canon does not make any home theatre projectors (none that are available in Canada anyway). All Canon projectors appear to focus on presentation/industrial applications. Also, I just took a quick look at the Canadian website and none of the models even offer a native 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080) - therefore if you were to use of their projectors in a home theatre setting, the picture would have to undergo unnecessary video scaling, not to mention the lack of picture controls normally associated with home theatre projectors.
