pn58c8000 or tc-p54vt25

since you have both (for testing) I would like your opinion .. i have a 58c8000 but just did an exchange for a 54vt25. Though the place I have it from is out of the vt25 and will take prob at least two weeks. They let me hold on to the 8000 until then. Did I make the right move, the 8000 has a great picture but at night when no lights are on the blacks can be a little ( not so inky ). I got a good price on the 8000 and it was a even trade for the vt25 ( and since the vt25 is more expensive i got a really good deal on that ).

Just would like your opinion.

Just to clarify for everyone here, I'm currently testing the Samsung PN50C8000 and the Panasonic TC-P50VT25 3D plasma TVs (both 50-inch versions of the TVs that neceo is asking about).

I connected both TVs to an HDMI splitter this afternoon, and began with the de-interlacing test patterns from the Spears & Munsil test disc. Here are the results so far. Please note that the Samsung's "Film Mode" had to be set to "Auto2" in order for it to pass the tests that it does below.

as stated i have the 8000 now and waiting for the vt25

i will say the picture quality of the 8000 is amazing .. just when i watch at nights the blacks could be better though

Hey everyone,

Here are some more extended comparisons between the Samsung and the Panasonic.

Samsung PROs/CONs

- an accurate picture can be achieved with a basic calibration (using a disc like Spears & Munsil)
- the picture has a very slight bias toward red
- much more comfortable 3D glasses
- rechargeable battery in 3D glasses (via USB cable)
- 2D to 3D conversion
- less expensive than Panasonic
- less expensive 3D Blu-ray player to match
- both TVs produce a slight buzz, but the Samsung is perhaps very slightly quieter (it’s rather difficult to test this, as the buzzing is affected by the TVs exact position and how close it is to the wall)

Panasonic PROs/CONs

-has a THX picture mode preset which is significantly better than any of the picture presets on the Samsung
- colours have a better saturation and pop off the screen a little more, skin tones look more natural (although slightly yellowish)
- the blacks are slightly deeper than on the Samsung, however as far as I’m aware, the blacks will become lighter on this TV after a few hundred hours of use (how will the blacks compare to the Samsung then is hard to say). We only have about 7 days with this TV so we can’t test this.
- does a noticeably better job with lower quality signals like 480i/p from my digital cable box. This is particularly true with cartoons. This TV very effectively minimizes picture noise and removes certain artifacts.
- does a better job with image retention (non moving images that are displayed for prolonged periods of time disappear quicker)
- 3D glasses are large and uncomfortable, and don’t have a rechargeable battery

What both TVs do well

- produce a bright picture that can be easily enjoyed in a brightly lit room
- contrast is very comparable on both sets, shadow details are also very similar
- both screens very effectively minimize reflections

That is the first time I have ever heard of a Samsung plasma buzzing less than a Panasonic. Are you sure this is accurate?

Yes, in my opinion the Panasonic emits an ever so slightly louder buzz. The difference to most users will likely be negligible and I wouldn't be surprised if there is a slight variance between two of exactly the same TVs. The fact is that all plasma panels have a slight buzz that you just have to accept.

We don't have the tools to measure the black level. Looking back at my initial post of comparisons (and spending some more time watching both TVs last night), I changed the Panasonic section to say "the blacks are slightly deeper than on the Samsung". Basically I took out the word "very" be slightly. The blacks are definitely deeper on the Panasonic, althought the difference isn't big by any means (certainly not visually).
