    Arrow New Member Introductions

This forum is designed for new forum members to introduce themselves to our audio video community. If you're not sure what forum to make your first post in, this is a great place to start!

Here are some ideas to include in your first post:

    - how did you learn about the CANADA HiFi forum?
    - what type of components are you interested in - audio, video or both?
    - what type of music you do enjoy listening to?
    - what components do have in your audio/video rack?
    - what is the next audio or video component that you plan to purchase or upgrade?

I hope you enjoy our little community and visit us often.

Existing members: I invite you to introduce yourselves as well since we haven't had a section to do so in previously.

    Cheers,

    Hello,

I came across the CanadaHIFI forum by Google search. I'm not a super-techy or AV inclined person.

My house has one Vizio 32-inch LCD TV and four CRT TVs. Ultimately, we will replace one of those CRTs with one more HDTV. The rest of the TVs will never be replaced - more likely, they will be removed. The computer serves as our audio system.

Over time my plan is to build an HTPC with a dual TV tuner and use Windows Media Centre to make a very large PVR and media library and function as our TV tuner for one of our HDTVs.

I'm also going to install two HD Home Runs to my router. This will allow for up to four computers on our network at any one time to operate as fully functional televisions and PVRs.

In June 2010 we cut the cord (cable TV) at our house. We installed an antenna on our rooftop and now we get as much TV as we need -- all of it in glorious HD/digital -- and completely free.

The odd show on cable-only channels that we watched we can either live without, or find them elsewhere.

We get: NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, The CW, MyTV Buffalo, PBS, ION, CBC, CBC French, Global, City TV, Sun TV, Omni 1, Omni 2, CHCH, and CTS -- all in High Definition.
We get: Retro TV, Universal Sports Network, qubo (similar to Treehouse), ION Life (similar to HGTV), and PBS Think Bright (similar to PBS) -- all in digital Standard Definition.
We get: TV Ontario in analogue (TVO will switch to digital soon).
Soon we will get: “A” Channel when it goes digital next year.

There are more channels coming. The American networks are adding digital SD sub-channels to complement their main network channel. Coming soon are rumored to be music channels, Latin American channels, and others.

I guess I’m just looking to spread the good news about free OTA TV. OTA TV isn’t for everyone – some can’t do without their MuchMusic, Discovery, History, TSN, etc. There are also those who live in areas with poor reception (blocked by trees, etc). But I’d bet there are a good many in the Greater Toronto Area or other large centres who are mainly watching the broadcast networks and just don’t know that the networks are all broadcasting in High Definition for free.

For you sports buffs out there, you could host a Super-Bowl party at your house and watch the original signal from the American broadcaster. This means you’d get the American advertisements! Most years, the ads are more entertaining than the game. Won’t you be popular!

I’m looking forward to learning from other members and sharing information I have on my subjects of interest.

I was searching for reviews of a Bluray player which could also double as a good CD player and came across this site. I have since really enjoyed browsing through the website. So much good new info all the time!
I am primarily interested in music - mainly Classical, 50s rock & roll, 80s post-punk, & rock from the last decade, such as Franz Ferdinand & The White Stripes. I do also watch movies once a week or so.
My music collection is 80% vinyl, which I play on a Rega Planar 2, through old Adcom pre and power-amps and Linn Nexus Speakers. I do have some cds which aren't available on vinyl, which is why I'm lookin' for a decent blu-ray/cd player combo. My current Samsung blu-ray player doesn't cut it for cds, so I'm hoping a better quality one will make my cds more enjoyable. I'm considering a Pioneer Elite BDP-05D FD, Denon DBP 2010, or somethin' like that.

Thanks for the kind words Donnie! You might want to check out the Cambridge Audio Azur 650BD Blu-ray universal player - if you're looking for a great Blu-ray/CD player. I recently bought one of these for myself.

We have a thread about this player here:
    http://canadahifi.com/forum/showthre...iversal-Player

And you can read its review here:
    http://www.canadahifi.com/Cambridge_...0BD_review.php

I'm also a big fan of bands like Franz Ferdinand & The White Stripes.

    Hi
I found this site by google search too.
My primary interest is home theatre.
Favorite music is rock (primarily grunge from the 90's).
I'm still working on building the home media room (aka man cave).
    - Receiver Onkyo 606
    - Speakers Klipsch *centre RC10, front RF15, side surround RS42, sub Velodyne DPS 12
    - Video 51" Sony Rear Projection 720p w/ HDMI & Sony Blu Ray Player (I forgot model #)
Once we're finished the basement reno AKA man cave I am hoping to upgrade the rear projection TV once it dies (soon I hope).
I look forward to checking back to this site regarding reviews on Plasma TVs and front projectors.

Hello Forbes and welcome to the forum!

Sounds like you're on the same mission here as most of us - the mission to build the best home theatre You should find valueable information in many of our articles and get some personal advice and opinions from members of the forum.

We recently reviewed a couple of wonderful plasma TVs (probably the best currently available today). One was the Samsung PN50C8000 and the other the Panasonic TC-P50VT25. You can find their reviews in the "Gear Reviews" section of the website.

And good luck with the basement reno!

Hello new members & existing members,

    INTRO

A long time ago, a friend of mine spent all his money for buying audio product. He didn't have a great job, he was not well-paid. When he get to buy something, I go with him.
If he was not there, I'm not sure that I will search and be interesting in audio product. Thanks to him! I discover a new world full of magic.

    ME

I'm Freetoojazz. I discover the Canada HiFi Forum when I was reading the free magazine Canada HiFi (the paper edition). Where I got my magazine? I took it in a store call Centre HiFi . Near 30 stores in Quebec (electronics for mass market).

In the moment, I'm more audio than video. But in a way, I'm a little mix of both cause I listen my music with a Denon A/V receiver and Denon Compact disc player. My speakers are Whaferdale & my subwoofer is a Paradigm. This is not a big audio system. It's not impossible that I combine my audio room with a video room, in the future. All my components are in a Sonora racks. Nice price, great looks.

Right now. The room were I listen music is not the same where I watch movies & TV.

What I expect ot buy in the future? DAC, LCD TV 26" or 32"

    MUSIC

I listen to music often. I enjoy jazz music, classical music, world music, blues & beyond. Like I said in another thread, I listen often my music with headphones late in night.

There a lot of freaks on this planet. Singer & composer Screamin'Jay Hawkins make me happy. I decided to celebrated him with another personnal Web Site:
