Ian here from Calgary, been in this hobby since about the age of 7 when one radio wasn't enough in my bedroom room, needed 4 all tuned to the same station, radio rolling Watched my dad build a quad tube/jensen speaker kit in the late 50's / early 60's (mono) and listened to that system until I blew it up around the age of 14 impressing a girlfriend, still sorry about that dad. Have managed to replace that amp lately with one with his name on it.

5 years ago I started Grant Fidelity with my partner Rachel, been a fun ride and have met thousands of music lovers and audiophiles in Canada, heard lots of stories too.
Now that's a proper intro - thanks Ian!

    Hi Everyone,

I came across Canada Hi-Fi by browsing the internet looking for ideas to upgrade my system. My love of music started at a very young age listening to my pocket radio I received as a gift. I would take it everywhere and listened when I got a chance. I bought my first stereo set at Bay Bloor radio in the early eighties and was hooked on bigger equipment ever since. It was a Technics stereo receiver, turntable, tape player and those tight sounding AR 8 speakers, and later Cerwin Vega's AT 10's. I still preferred the tight sound from the ARs over the boomy Cerwin Vega though. In the late 90's I upgraded to Denon AVR 2600 with Energy's surround dipolar RVSS, center EC200 and their 8" sub-woofer using my existing AT10's for front speakers. Recently, I decided to move up to the HDMI world and found out that my Denon AVR 2600 was outdated as there were no HDMI connections. A week ago I purchased the Denon AVR 791 (not as powerful as my old Denon), but thought it would be sufficient. My current quest is to find 2 new good reasonably priced front speakers that would compliment my current setup with the Energy speakers and the Denon AVR 791.

Audio interests are R&B, Pop, Jazz and the odd classical to relax. As for my video interest, I like watching action movies.

Thanks all and I look forward to your suggestions.

Welcome to our little community Stardust! I'll be glad to offer my opinion (and I'm sure that other will as well) in the speaker thread

Hi Suave....I'm VERY new to this, I joined yesterday as evanjohn3, and left you a rather long question about the proper hook-up of my system, the reason for doing so was that I wasn't sure how to ask that question to the entire group, so, if you can, and if you wouldn't mind, I would greatly appreciate it if you could post that question for me...(.my system was the Bryston power amp, Anthem pre=amp, etc).....if you could offer me some suggestions and advice on using this forum properly I would truly appreciate that as well.

    Thank you very much,
    evanjohn3

    Hi evanjohn3,

Sorry for the delayed reply... I've been away at the Montreal audio show and somehow missed you post. I don't think that I can post the message with your account, but here is how you can do it yourself.

Log in to the forum and click on Notifications in the top right and then select "Inbox". Find the private message that you wrote to me and highlight all the text in it. Once the text is blue, right-click with your mouse and select "copy".

Then start a new thread in the appropriate section and in the message box, right-click with your mouse and select "paste". This is copy&paste your original private post into a public thread. I, along with other members, with then reply to your questions.

    hey there!

Just registered, I have always been into music but have recently ventured into higher quality hardware! looks like I have lot of reading to do..

At the moment I have two Adam A3Xs active studio monitors running from a media geared PC, eventually Id like to get a vinyl turntable and slowly build up both a vinyl and FLAC library rather then my current CD and Mp3 stash!

    Hi,

    I happen to get a printed copy of Canada HiFi from an audio store when looking for my new amplifier. I should say that Suave and team are doing a great job and your website and book are very informative. I've been an addict to Home Theater stuff since 1996 and have made few upgrades until I shift to Canada a year ago. Now I am looking to restart everything in my home theater. Here are my shortlists;

TV : Samsung LED UN46C6300 (already in my living room)
    Amplifier : Emotiva XPA-5
    Processor : Integra DHC 80.2
    Player : Oppo BD95
Speakers : Axiom M60 (front & left) for time being

I am glad that I've landed in a good forum. Please post your thoughts about above products from you experts.

Music is my passion, rock-n-roll is my favorite genre. I've a good collection of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Scorpions .......... CDs and some live concert DVDs like Pink Floyd Pulse.. I am waiting to listen and watch these in my new HT.

    Cheers....

Just courious, do you mean Shift to Canada?

You have some very nice gear. How is the sonic's of the Oppo 95? I have the older 83-SE and love it. I have not heard this new unit personaly but have read reviews that it is better then the 83-SE.

I do not own Oppo 95, but plan to buy in couple of weeks. As I said, I made a short list for my purchases.....
