Default Samsung 3D Glasses Turning On and Off (tip for how to fix)

Anyone who owns a Samsung 3D TV (plasma or LCD) has probably noticed that the 3D glasses flicker on and off at times when watching 3D content. This usually occurs when the picture switches from a bright scene to a dark scene and vice-versa.

I found a solution online which can appearantly fix this issue and just wanted to share it with everyone.

To fix this, simply cover about 75 percent of the IR sensor on the glasses with black electrical tape.

I will try this tonight and report on whether it works.

LesIsTechSavy - did you experience this issue with your glasses as well?

I have noticed it a few times. Its not the glasses so much as the TV. It appears that the tv (does not detect the 3D or is not displaying 3D) for a second or two but then kicks in. I have replayed the same spots but I have never gotten it to repeat so I eliminated bad software (Blue Ray). It happens on COD as well but not all the time. I will have to pay closer attention to it. Next time I will ask the other person if they see the same error at the same time, that will illiminate the glasses all together as the source.

Putting electrical tape over about 85 percent of the IR sensor on the glasses did eliminate most of this issue for me. The glasses turn off much less frequently now

I like your idea of testing this with two people at the same time. Let me know how this pans out LesIsTechSavy.

I wonder what putting tape over 85% of the IR sensor does? If you are wearing the glasses and look away from the screen the effect stays on for a few seconds, so when you turn back there is no delay in the effect at all.
I think there is a default that allows the glasses to maintain the flashing until after some pre determined time has elapsed. It is possible that by covering up the IR sensor you force the glasses to maintain the 3D in low signal events and thus reduced the amount of times that you notice it. There might also be a difference in the way the 3D glasses work all together, mine are the battery type and Suave you have those rechargeable ones.
I will have to pay attention to when it does happen, its very infrequent but I will look for the tell tale light bloom effect that should happen when the glasses turn off the 3D flashing.

I have not been 3D viewing or gaming for some time now but tonight's game should be a good test. I am PVRing it since I will be out but it should be interesting to see
