    Default Best Classical Music Suggestions

    Hey everyone,

I wanted to start a thread where we could share our favourite classical music selections with each other on both CD and vinyl

Here's what I've been listening to on CD lately:

Holst "The Planets" (JVC XRCD, Decca)
    Tchaikovsky "Nutcreacker: Favorite Selections" (Telarc)
    The Best of Chopin
    F. Chopin & C. Debussy "Piano Music in a Church"
"Britten's Orchestra", Michael Stern (Kansas City Symphony)

    Great idea for a thread!!!!

These are some of my vinyl favorites:

Respighi ~ Ancient Airs and Dances - Boston Symphony, Seiji Ozawa (Deutsche Grammophon)
Respighi ~ Botticellian Triptych - Scarlatti Orchestra (Angel)
Vivaldi ~ The Four Seasons - New Philharmonia Orchestra, Leopold Stokowski (London)
Rodrigo ~ Concierto para una Fiesta - Pepe Romero & Academy of St Martin in the Fields (Philips)
Rodrigo ~ Concierto Andaluz - The Romeros & San Antonio Symphony (Mercury)
Prokofiev ~ Romeo & Juliet, Excerpts - Los Angeles Philharmonic, Erich Leinsdorf (Sheffield Lab)

    And a couple good CDs:

Mussorgsky ~ Pictures at an Exhibition - Piano version by Byron Janis, orchestral version by Antal Dorati and the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra (Mercury Living Presence)
De Falla ~ El Amor Brujo - Philadelphia Orchestra, Leopold Stokowski (Sony)

I'm a big fan of the pianist Sviatoslav Richter. The Collection of Decca Recordings "Richter the Master " are one of my favorite.

    Very nice suggestions guys

I've also been really enjoying Respighi on vinyl lately - Respighi ~ The Birds: Brazilian Impressions - London Symphony Orchestra (Mercury). I'll have to check out the other two Respighi records that you mention as well Donnie. I've also been meaning to pick up a Vivaldi record.

Freetojazz - I've never heard of Sviatoslav Richter but I'll see if I can find some samples of his music online before ordering a disc.

Respighi is my favorite composer. I have the Mercury Birds/Brazilian Impressions too. I haven't listened to it for a while. I think I'll put it on tonight!
