yamaha av recievers
HI all.............I'm new to the site. I am going to be upgrading in the near future. The first piece of equipment to be upgraded is my 11yr old rx-v1300 yamaha reciever. I have been looking at the RXZ7. Any one heard any feed back on this unit? I've been thinking on B&W 804d for mains down the road. Would this reciever run these speakers well? Thanks .

Welcome to the forum farmboy!
We've never actually evaluated any Yamaha AV receivers so I can't speak from personal experience. However I did find a review from the Home Theater magazine (which I trust) here:
The writer makes some comments which imply that the receiver's sound is a little on the bright side, which not many people enjoy (including myself). Also, I found a number of user reviews on the Test Freaks website which give this receiver a combined score of 7.6 out of 10. All that being said, I'm sure that this receiver would run your B&W speakers just fine.
If your mind is really set on this receiver, I would try to find it in a store that can give you a demo (especially considering it's $2600 or so price tag) before comitting to a purchase.
i have a yammie .. HTR-6190. functions extremely well. am going to switch soon however ... been a couple of years now ..and want a change. plus .. i admit that the Yamaha sound is a tad forward .. brighter.
may i suggest .. unless your getting your RXZ7 for very (very) good pricing .. i would consider the RXA2000 or RXA3000, entirely redesigned.
not telling you what to do, just saying what options i would consider ...it's very easy spending "other peoples money" .. : )
i would also audition Rotel to match nicely with the B&W's. Lots of opportunity to buy used Rotel gear on Canuck Audio Mart ... if your into that.
certainly, none of the above is to confuse. the best outcome is one you like, approve of. have to get out there and audition.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I know the rxz7 is around 2700.00; and dont mind spending that much if it works well with the speakers. I don't know anything about rotel or what I am looking for in their line. Any suggestions with model numbers would be great. Thanks again.
Thank you Suave. I will check out your suggestions. No, I'm not stuck on Yamaha. I just don't know much else about any of the vast great products out there, or what I'm looking at some times ( not a electronics guy when it comes to audio/video). I do know, I like very good quality sound and don't mind paying a middle class wage for it . So the 2600-2700 for the yamaha isn't out of wack. I know the prices for the B&W's (have had B&W 's for alot of years) . Thanks for your time.

i think at these prices levels .. the differences in sound will not be night and day, particularly within the same brand of AVR.
prior to spending within your stated budget .. do read the following review of the RXA3000 .. this review does alot of comparison to the ZX7
I have just purchased the new Yamaha RX-A3010 and am very happy with it's stereo performance, and is very enjoyable with movies too. The build quality and features are well worth the money in my view. Not sure about the '5th foot' though
Congrats on the new purchase Jake and welcome to the forum!
It'd be great to see an introduction from yourself in the "New Member Introduction - What are your audio video interests?" thread here:
A couple of pics of your setup would be even better
