Welcome aboard Canuck! I noticed in your profile that you are a Home Theatre Technician - it would be really nice if you introduced yourself in the "New Member Introduction - What are your audio video interests?" thread here http://canadahifi.com/forum/forumdis...ideo-interests

There's no question that the last generation of the Pioneer Elite KURO TVs are still some of the finest TVs available today... however the latest top of the line Samsung and Panasonic plasmas are coming mighty close to offering the same performance. It's about time

I myself just came across an deal on a Panasonic VT25 58" that I could not refuse - less than half the list, so I had to grab it. I've got it setup and am enjoying it immensely, though if you can believe it have not yet tried the 3D. Goes to show you that the best 3D sets are also the best 2D sets.

My only beef so far about the TV is the glare off the screen. In a dark room no issue but throw in daylight and it can't be missed. I do most of my serious watching at nights so it's not a big problem but is something to be warned about.

I went from a 4yr old, 40", 720p, LCD Samsung to the Panny VT25 - a different league all together. One of the major reasons I grabbed the VT25 without hesitation was that the VT30 for all intensive purposes shows no real improvement but for aesthetics.

Good grab Soundgame. A proper calibration will show you what that baby can do.

Thanks Spudso, I would agree. It will be a tricky calibration as my room is open concept with floor to ceiling window on the back wall to either side of the TV. That said, I do most of my "serious" watching at night - so perhaps I need a calibrator who is willing to come and do the setup, after sundown.

This is an awesome TV without any doubt SoundGame! Have you watched any 3D Blu-rays yet? I've got a few I can recommend if you're into sci-fi and action flicks

I don't think that anyone appreciates screen glare - but window treatments can easily fix this for daytime watching. For night time watching, you should try one of the Ideal Lume lamps that we talked about in one of the other threads. I picked one up from Mike Osadciw and I use it all the time.

Also, I'm pretty sure that Mike does calibrations after sundown

Oh - hadn't noticed that thread - interesting concept. I'm using an IKEA light in that room which is portable and thought about moving it from the opposing wall (where there is lots of glare) to the wall that the TV is on.

Appears they cost about $59 U.S. (not sure what Mike sells for) - seems reasonable, then that may be a solution as well - nicely hidden - I like it. Will Mike have at TAVES for sale - perhaps something to add as a special deal??

Soundgame - the Ideal Lume bias lights work really well for night time viewing. I have been using one now for a couple of years, and its the only light I need to have on when watching movies. As Suave indicated in the other thread he referred you to, no more reflections from other lights in the room along with the added benefits he mentioned.

I'm sure that Mike's price is similar to this. I think it's a great idea for Mike to sell these at TAVES. He'll be running a couple of semiars for us (Display Buyer Guide and Display Calibration) - perhaps he can sell them after each semiar. I'm sending him an email about this right now
