I'm going to give you an advance peek at what I bought. Delivery has been delayed until next week, which is why I'm showing a stock pic only. Real pics will follow as soon as I have them installed and setup.

    They are: Genesis G7.1f loudspeakers.

Thanks AT! I do consider myself lucky and I'm SOOOOO looking forward to having them setup. I've been going through my vinyl collection and setting aside some gems that I want to play.

Nice speaker John. I had a chance to speak with Gary Koh, owner, designer/engineer of Genesis loudspeakers, at TAVES, while siting in one of the Burmester rooms. His speakers sound wonderful and he has a lot of experience. I'm sure you will enjoy them very much - congratulations! I'm sure it will work well with your McIntosh amp - and will provide the opportunity to get even great sonics with a hi-end preamplifier in place.

I've had the pleasure of meeting Gary as well at the last TAVES show. In fact, on Saturday morning when the Rutherford Room was empty I spent close to an hour listening to the G7.1p's and G5.3's he had set up. He was supposed to have a TT setup, but told me that the transport company messed up, so we listened to some wonderful needledrops he did and had on his server.

Wow - congrats John! I haven't had the personal pleasure of listening to any Genesis speakers in the past but I just skim-read a very nice review of them. Sounds like you bought these thanks to TAVES! What is it about these speakers that made you choose them?

Thanks Suave....I'm excited! The speakers will be here tomorrow in the early afternoon and I'm looking forward to a nice long session with them!

As to your question, well that's rather complicated as it wasn't just about sound, but also about flexibility and design concept. The thing that struck me the most about Genesis speakers, and I think this holds true across the entire range, is "balance". Neither the low-end, mid-range or the highs ever compete with eachother, but are instead heard in unison and with clarity. Hearing those characteristics in both the G7.1p and G5.3 at TAVES convinced me that this is a speaker I can live with for a very long time. So yeah, TAVES certainly played a part.

Once I get them positioned properly and have lived with them for a bit I will be glad to offer my views on what I think. After that I'll install my new Ortofon 2M Black so I can compare my old cartridge to it with the new speakers.

The speakers arrived yesterday afternoon, but due to them sitting in a cold truck for a good part of the day, I decided not to connect them immediately..preferring to let them get to room temperature first. As such I didn't get much time to acquaint myself with them. I did play a few LP's, but I was rather tired and wasn't able to really focus in on anything. The litmus test will come on Saturday when I have the whole day and I'll post some thoughts. Of course they will only be first impressions as it's going to take me some time to dial them in properly.

I will say the fit and finish on these speakers is of the highest quality and I'm very impressed and pleased. There wasn't a blemish, a mark or even a fingerprint on them.

I have them setup without their spikes for the moment as they are extremely heavy and I will be moving them several times during my evaluation process. I'll have to add some slight physical moves once the spikes are attached, as no doubt the sound will be somewhat altered.

Anyway, without further delay, here are a few pics as promised. Sorry for the crappy pic quality, but I'm using an old 5MP point and shoot

Hi John , speakers look great. Let us know how the sound improves as they get some use. I saw in your other post that you'll be installing an Ortofon 2M Black cartridge on your TT. Please post your thoughts on that. From what I've heard , you'll be blown away. Have Fun with your new toys

Hi Jimi - The Ortofon will blow the Pearl out of the water without doubt! As long as I'm able to get in enough listening time, I will likely install the Ortofon in about a week.

I've already made some positioning changes with the speakers by moving them back as I had enough room to do so. They were initially, and measured from the back of the cabinet, at 28" from the rear wall. They are now at 16", which is still enough to incorporate the rear tweeter. I've also remeasured the width from the side walls and made some adjustments there as well. They are now also 16" from the side walls, and are placed just a smidgen over 6' in width from centre of tweeter to tweeter. I'm going to live with this configuration through the weekend and make adjustments, as deemed necessary, to the Bass and Tweeter gain controls on the back.
