As Ron recommends above, I would definitely try placing the panels on the left and right wall (at the primary reflection points) rather than behind the speakers, especially since you'll have heavy drapes behind your speakers anyway.
If I was you, I would play a few familiar recordings on your system (prior to the acoustic treatment of the room) and make specific notes about the sound - both the highs and the lows. Then I would put the panels in place and see how they affect the sound in the room. This will give you something to reference when listening to the same tracks again, and should make it easier to identify the improvements.
These are excellent points you bring up Suave, and something I will certainly do. Before permanently mounting any of the panels, I will try different positions (rear and side) and see what works best.
I've been giving some thought about the ceiling panels based on some opinions. I may not need them, given the fact I have those heavy drapes behind me, a good-sized 6x9 (approx) heavy carpet and then the Corner Tri-traps and rear/side panels. I think I should wait on the ceiling panels.
Any opnions guys?
