    Question my samsung PN58c8000

I am the owner of samsung pn58c8000 and very happy with it until a few weeks ago when all of a sudden i started to experience irritating problems.
When I turn on the tv, before the picture comes on from my BELL hdpvr...the screen is black, but it has a lite greyish streak running down the middle of the screen ( about 10" wide) . On a totaly white screen this appears as a very lite greenish streak..it's really annoying..sometimes it's visible during regular programming when picture fades to black.

On top of this, I also get what seems to be "WHITE BLOOMING" that rapidly receeds.
For example, a scene shot from the point of view of the passenger in a car, out the window looks overly bright(loss of details) or perhaps in "before and after" scenes of a renovation show like HGTV as the picture transitions..this also happens in video games like KILLZONE 3 or BATTLEFIELD 2....but not in NHL 10. Other programming like a HD newscast seems fine.

I use the default picture settings with the exception of CAL-DAY which I calibrated using settings I found on an internet site. The picture was excellent on all settings before.

I'm truly frustrated. Should I call SAMSUNG Service? What are the correct terms to use to explain my problems...

    Thank you
    Rob

I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your Samsung plasma.

Does the greyish streak running down the middle of the screen appear when you're using different sources (Blu-ray player, video game console)? Are you video sources connected directly to the TV or are you using an AV receiver? If you are using an AV receiver try connecting everything directly to the TV. Do the same issues still exist?

Was something left on the screen for a long period of time that had a static line in the middle of the screen? If yes, then this could be image retention which should slowly go away in the next few hours.

If this in fact happens regardless of video source and on every HDMI input, then it is likely a problem with the TV itself. Is your TV still under warranty?

The second issue you mention could be caused by a picture setting, however it could also be caused by a failing panel.

You explain both issues above very clearly - I would contact Samsung and describe what you're experiencing exactly as above.

Please keep us posted as to what Samsung tells you.

Default clouding/flash and lighting/blooming on my samsung Plasma pn58c8000

thanks for the response last week...my sources( PVR ,PS3, and bluray) are connected directly to the tv with ULTRALINKS flat hdmi cables. the problem occurs on all sources.
I have done some research and have found these terms that seem to fit my problem "dead-on".....CLOUDING...FLASHing....blooming.... these were found on many samsung led and lcds...can these be a problem with Plasma tv's too.

can these problems be repaired or is the panel finished? i purchased the tv last christmas(2010). what do you suggest? i will certainly call the service center for their
evaluation since the tv is still under warranty. have you heard of such problems with samsung or other brands?

i contacted samsung and they suggested i do a factory reset....the technician said he never heard of such problems.....

    thanks

Only a qualfied technician would be able to determine whether the problems that you're experiencing are with the panel itself or with the electronics that are driving the panel. If it is a circuit board that's malfunctioning than the TV can be fixed for a reasonable cost but if it's the panel itself it might be cheaper for Samsung to replace the whole TV.

I've spoken to Samsung technical support reps in the past and found them to not be very helpful at all unfortunately. I'm currently dealing with a problem with my own Samsung 3D plasma - I have two pairs of 3D glasses that suddently just stopped working (and Samsung tech support couldn't be less helpful). I'm describing my issues in a seperate thread on this forum (http://canadahifi.com/forum/showthre...=3966#post3966). Doing a factory reset of your TV is certainly something you could try although I don't think it'll fix your problem.

Since your TV is still under warranty (although not for much longer) I would hurry to get it into a service centre. Samsung tech support should be able to tell you the location closest to your place. I would call them first anyway because they might have to create a case # for you before you can drop the TV off for repairs.

During my dealings I found a service centre called Rayjac Electronics (416-661-5237) in Toronto and their senior technician appears to be very knowledgable based on a short conversation I had with him last week. You could try giving them a call to see if they could offer any additional tips.

Please keep us posted on how all of this works out.

I've had a similar thing with our Samsung 42" plasma.

Try running the screen-burn protection (somewhere within the picture option settings) which might help. On ours it runs a black to white picture across the screen every few seconds. It helped to clean up some greenish images imprinted on our screen, although it didn't get rid of them entirely.

    Good luck.
