Integrated amplifier search in BA, Argentina :)!
Hi there, this is my first post, I'd like to know if anybody's got any suggestions for replacing my venerable Onkyo receiver (year 96') for my 2nd room equipment. I've got some B&W 603 (the first version, "series 1" no "DM2/3") and an Onkyo CDP that I plan to replace with my Krell CD-1 CDP from my "main equipment". Cables: Audioquest Ruby RCAs, and same brand of speaker's cables. It's a big room, about 7 x 3,5 meters.
I've been offered a Rotel RA 1520 but, alas, I even listen to a bit of radio interference
in all the sources, with any cable I attach to (I even tried some Transparent Music link. By the way, anybody suffered this same problem, and knows if there's a solution for it? It's most noticeable on the "Phono" imput. After some struggle I found out that by pressing the "tone defeat button" (between the bass and treble knobs) I reduce it to a minimum. It's mostly listenable when one is near the speaker and on the silences of classical music, what I happen to listen.
So no Rotels for me
. I was thinking about a Krell KAV 300i but it's a bit pricey of course, and am a bit hesitant about having to rewire that section of the house.
If you can offer any help it'll be greatly appreciated
!
Regards from Buenos Aires, Ignacio L.

Welcome to the forum all the way from Argentia stuka247!
The Rotel RA 1520 is a well rated integrated amp and based on your brief description above, there may be a problem with the unit that you tested in your system (or some of the associated components that you connected to it or your power line). I would be surprised if a properly running model produced this amount of background noise.
If you're looking for an alternative option, one of the best sounding, resonably priced 2-channel integrated amps I've heard is the ARCAM A65 (now replaced by the ARCAM FMJ A series amps). I paid about $1,000 for mine and I'm sure that one of the new models comes in at a similar price point.
You can view the new ARCAM integrated amps here: http://www.arcam.co.uk/products,fmj,...Amplifiers.htm
Let us know how your search goes!
