Donate old projector or ideas for how to get one? Not Spam!
Hi everyone,
I am a former Canada HIFI user from when I was helping a family member with their Home Theater solution, and remember having a great experience in problem solving from friendly members.
Today I am a business and global development student who is participating on a trip to African business schools to teach a special "case-based" business course to students and faculty there.
Here is some background on the trip:

As I was going over my lesson plans I realized that some of the most powerful takeaways from classes that I have attended were contained in videos which professors played from Youtube or TED, etc. and that I had many similar videos which I could use to complement my own lessons.
I emailed the university at which I will be teaching to ask about multimedia capabilities in the classroom, and was told that there was no such possibility.
Concurrently, another member of my group emailed KLM - the airline we will be using - and was informed that the airline allows passengers flying to Africa to take an extra piece of luggage containing materials for donation in-country. Naturally, I thought that were I able to get my hands onto a projector system, I could easily bring it to the university and leave it there upon completion.
I figured that I would post up here to the experts in the area to see if I could get any help/advice in getting an old digital projector for me to take. I have some knowledge of the technology and am confident that I could pull it off if I could only get a projector (and potentially some small speakers).
If this post annoys you and/or you feel it is spam, I apologize, but if you find my appeal interesting my email is tcollins.hba2013(at) ivey.ca. There have been great stories of online communities having genuine positive effects on social problems, and I can assure you I will make full use of the projector.
I will be leaving from Toronto April 29, am currently in London, but will be visiting the Collingwood area prior to my departure. If you have any questions or if I didn't make myself clear, feel free to shoot me an email as well.
All the best,
Tom

Thanks for sharing your story with us here Tom. As you might imagine most of us here would be a little apprehensive to donate a projector to someone that we don't know personally. It sounds like you are trying to do something commendable but I'm not sure how much luck you'll have find a projector from a forum member.
My suggestion would be to approach family and friends and ask them for small monetary donations. There a lots of inexpensive projector options out there today and you could probably pick one up for as little at $400.
