I've finally found a moment to snap a few pictures of one of our 2-channel reference systems which we use to evaluate some of the 2-channel components and speakers that are reviewed for the magazine.
The speakers that we currently use are Totem Rainmaker bookshelves.
From top to botom the components on the rack include:
Fatman iTube 452 Integrated Tube Amplifier with iPod dock
Squeezebox Duet Wireless Music System (that's the black remote in the top left used for streaming music wirelessly from a computer)
ARCAM DiVA CD73 CD player
Classé Audio CP-500 preamplifier
Classé Audio CDP-102 CD player
Raysonic SP-120 integrated tube amplifier
Classé Audio CA-2100 amplifier
All the Classé Audio components have upgraded power cables (some from Gutwire, some from Furutech and some custom made)
The Totem bookshelves sound great with this setup, althought the system is capable of driving much higher caliber full-range speakers.
Have you tried any other speakers from the Totem line on this setup i.e. the Hawks or Forests which would be fuller range?
I've heard some refer to Classe as being a little too analytical / dry sounding - would you concur that it leanst that way? I do love the look of Classe components.
There is no question that a fuller-range Totem speaker would sound much better with my components, although I can't say that I've tried the Hawks or the Forests. As soon as my budget allows, I would like to step it up to full range speakers
I do agree with the fact that the Classe components do sound somewhat analytical (although I wouldn't go as far as calling their sound dry). This is one of the reasons that many recording/mastering studios use Classe gear. The preamp also lacks a little in the bass in my opinion. However, overall they produce a sound that is so clean, detailed and dynamic that they are hard not to love.
When I desire a warmer, richer sound... I turn to my Fatman iTube 452 Integrated Tube Amp.
The Fatman has a richer, more detailed sound overall. It also plays a deeper, more defined bass. But it did cost $1100 more than the Raysonic ($2400 vs $3500).
Don't get me wrong, the Raysonic is a pretty nice sounding amp - when paired with a CD player, it produces a rich, warm sound that very pleasant to listen to.

The Raysonic is one real sweet looking piece. I've seen them before. Your price is very reasonable on that...a steal for someone looking to get into tubes.
Although I opted for the Totem Sttaf a few years back ( I love the voicing), the Rainmakers are a phenomenal monitor, and I'm not surpised to see them in this second setup.
The Totem Sttaf is a fantastic speaker indeed - I listened to it on a couple of seperate occasions.
FYI - the picture above is slightly outdated. I still own the Totem Rainmaker bookshelves but I've been using the Focal Electra 1008 Be II bookshelf speakers for the last year and a half (which I absolutely love). When I get a chance, I'll posted an updated pic of my current setup
