    Default Speakers for Yamaha pc2002

I recently got a Yamaha pc2002 (I actually dug it out of a dumpster at work) and would love some input on what speakers I should pair with it.

I don't have a huge budget (as you can maybe tell as I have thus far done my hifi shopping in dumpsters) and would like something for around $300 (no more than $500).

Any other input on a preamp would also be great!

    Specifications

Power output: 240 watts per channel into 8 ohms (700 watts mono)
    Damping factor: more than 200
    Input sensitivity: 0.775V
    Frequency response: 10Hz to 50kHz
Total harmonic distortion: less than 0.007%
    Signal to noise ratio: 110dB
    Channel separation: 80dB
    Dimensions: 480 x 413 x 183mm
    Weight: 20kg

thats an interesting amp its rated for 240w per side so you will need to be some what careful using it with low cost, low power handling speakers.

for a pre you can use pretty much any that fit your budget, but what sources do you plan to use? as that can make a difference in pre-amp selection. For example if you use a PC only (that's me) you may not need a pre if you use a DAC with high enough output

Since you have a turntable you will need a preamp. It will need to have a phono input, what type of cartridge does it have MM (moving magnet) or MC (moving coil)?

For speakers you cant go wrong with a number of brands, Paradigm has some nice units under $500 as do Definitive, B&W, Energy and my faves in this price range Klipsch. Best to go listen at a dealer to see what you like I see Martin Logan has some in this price range as well, I'd definitely give those a listen

Some other speakers I would consider in the under $500 range is something from Monitor Audio or Sinclair Audio.
