    Default Grant Fidelity DAC-09

cool.. ! have it home and hooked up (yes .. it's playing as i type) ..

.. now i'm getting somewhere with quality 2 channel. it's very obvious to notice the improvements. i'll add more with time in using the DAC, however a couple of initial impressions/results. **Album: Mercedes Five and Dime by Moist.

    songs played

    - Tonight
    - Place
    - Breathe

wow .. smooooth audio, more detail too. vocals, background vocals, acoustic. bass is deeper, natural ..and extends nicely. basically, sounds like better, high(er) end audio. gesh .. when i add in better speakers this is going to sound excellant.

i've added images to my profiles public album. (sorry, i couldn't see how to add images as thumb nails in the general usage topics ..maybe just an oversight on my behalf. if anyone can link me to the procedure to do this - much appreciated)

    here's a teaser ..

Glad to hear that you're enjoying the improvement! I haven't really played around with dedicated DACs too much in the past but this might be the year that I give it a try. I would probably add a DAC between my computer and my 2-channel system.

In regards to the pics, are you talking about posting thumbnails instead of full size images in a post?

Can someone anwer this for us? When posting a message with a pic - is there a way to choose if the pic will appear as a thumbnail or a full size image?

yes .. pretty neat and tidy. i'm sure it will come to me.

thank you. i'm really enjoying the audio. i couldn't speak of it technically, however it is worthwhile (given the before and after) .. isn't that the whole point ? i'm sure there's better and not as good. but alot of this HT is subjective (that's the beauty in it - we can create shaped around our tastes - preferences) ...to me, it's an emotion .. not boxes and wires.

i'm looking forward to Canada HiFi's intrepretation (hoping you can swipe one from GF for review .. ha !)

    I just bought a DAC-09 myself, used, from a friend on another forum...oh, I said something dreadful...LOL!
Actually, I've just bought his Rega Apollo and GF DAC-09 for a very sweet deal. I'm looking forward to trying it out as a DAC, preamp and headphone amp with my Grado SR80's. Fun.

pictures attached to a post are automatically thumbnailed. But they must be "equal to" or "less than" the size indicated on the attachment page. I'm not sure about the album as I have not tried that yet

I guess what I was trying to ask is - how do you insert a full image into a post (not a thumbnail)? I'm trying to do just what pharsyde did in his post above.

    Love your avatar dmitchell.

Actually, it's very funny, though DAC's are usually purchased to stream audio via a computer or the like - potentially via USB - I have not tried this myself - never had the need. I don't use a media PC except for my PS3 and with that I use the optical. From what I've heard the DAC-09 works better with the optical and/or coaxial rather than USB anyway.

    Cheers.

LOL... it's my son's cat. He's actually not as mean as he looks.

I tried the DAC-09 with the very same set-up you have now - the Apollo via coax to the DAC. It sounded pretty sweet. I also tried it via USB from my music server. It was absolutely brutal - compressed and distorted. USB is not the way to go for hi-fi music anyway.
