Integra, who designs products specifically for custom installers, has just introduced the DTR-30.5 home theater receiver with new home integration and performance features. Notably this is the company’s first receiver with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interfaces for modern media connectivity. It is also Integra’s first with 4K pass-through and up-scaling for Ultra HD high definition video displays, and it includes new Phase-Matching Bass technology for exceptional sound clarity.

With so many different music source options available today, this receiver has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to stream music from phones, tablets, and computers. This gives it the capability to playback high-definition music files in FLAC, DSD, ALAC, HD 24/96 and HD 24/192 formats from HD music download services.

Connection options include six HDMI inputs with two outputs for connection to streaming services via Apple TV, Roku, blu-ray players and other sources, a USB port, and a hard-wire Ethernet connection. These networking features also provide access to the widest selection of audio streaming content such as Spotify, Pandora, Rhapsody, SiriusXM Internet Radio and Tune In. In addition to all this new connectivity, the DTR-30.5 also provides extensive support for legacy digital and analog sources, including a phono input for connecting a turntable.

Increasingly, custom installers are equipping premium home theaters with the new 4K Ultra HD video displays, which are the pixel equivalent of four current 1080p HD screens. The 4K pass-through feature allows Ultra HD video signals to connect directly to these video display without interference or modification. For conventional video sources, it includes the remarkable Marvel QDEO processor to convert, or “upscale,” lower resolution video to a full 4K presentation via HDMI.

Sound quality has always been a key factor in Integra’s design process. The new Phase Matching Bass optimizes low frequencies while preserving mid-range clarity. It counters phase shifting — which can affect sound quality — by synchronizing the timing of different frequencies. The result is deep, well-defined bass that won’t overwhelm vocals or strings.

With plenty of audio power on tap to drive each of seven loudspeakers in a home theater surround system, the Integra DTR-30.5 is rated at 95 Watts per channel. The amplifier sections employ the company’s three-stage inverted Darlington circuitry and Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT) — a low negative-feedback topology for low distortion and high dynamic range.

The Integra DTR-30.5 includes an array of modern and very useful features. These include InstaPreview, which allows users to monitor multiple program sources with this HDMI variant of picture-in-picture. There is also Mobile High-definition Link (MHL) to deliver HD video and up to 7.1 channels of audio from compatible Andriod smart devices and other products.

In addition to the 7.1 channel Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio processing that is part of the HDMI spec, the DTR-30.5 uses Dolby Pro Logic IIz to provide alternate surround option for front height channels. Audyssey MultEQ is included for automated room setup using an included microphone. Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume provide further sound enhancements.

Custom installers will appreciate the inclusion of Powered Zone 2 and Zone 2 preouts, two IR inputs and one output for remote control integration, and three 12-volt triggers. A bi-directional RS-232 port is available for connection to some home automation systems.

The Integra DTR-30.5 AV receiver begin shipping this month with a price of $1,100 CAD. For more info, please visit www.integrahometheater.com

Beatis Audio has just released a new music server – the Baetis XR, which follows up the Baetis Revolution server that was released in 2012. The new Baetis XR aims to provide not only high quality audio but also video service. Inside the new XR are what Baetis claims to be specially chosen motherboards and RAM, chosen to deliver the highest possible audio quality. Beatis indicates that with the new XR, they are the only company in the industry to utilize a galvanically isolated and dedicated BNC-SPDIF connector directly off the motherboard, with no separate sound card – avoiding absorbtion of electro-magnetic interference. The company believes that optimized SPDIF connections will exceed the performance of USB by a significant margin.

Like the Baetis Revolution, the new XR uses JRiver media software, specially configured to play all forms of media. The XR is not only a music server but can also rip and play CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Ray discs.., with the capability to download and play hi-def audio files from HDTracks. Reference Recordings and other like sites. Utilizing the JRiver software, the XR has the capability to play native DSD files, allowing SACD rips or DSD material downloaded from a few web content provides to be played.

The focus of the Baetis Revolution was on 2-channel audio, while the new XR targets the audiophile whose two-channel system is within a high-end multi-channel system. In such multi-channel systems, video is the norm and the XR has been designed to provide video processing in the league of the finest multi-channel pre/pros or act provide straight pass-through of video signals, without processing.

The Baetis XR is currently available at a MSRP of $5,995. Further details and specifications are available on the Baetis website, as follows: www.baetisaudio.com.

Recently shown in Munich, the new fact.12 loudspeaker from PMC is the latest edition to PMC’s fact series of high performance speakers. The fact.12 is the first three-way speaker in PMC’s fact series. Keeping with fact series styling and design, the new fact.12 features a tall slender cabinet and utilizes PMC’s Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) bass loading technology.

With the exception of the proven fact tweeter, also used on the other fact models, the fact.12 was designed from the ground up as a wholly new product. Starting with the drive units, a new140 mm coated alloy cone bass unit with a much longer linear excursion was developed. The result is the most effective ATL speaker to date, delivering the maximum energy back from the transmission line. The combined output of the twin bass drivers and that of the twin ATL vents delivers a low frequency performance very close to PMC’s large scale IB2 studio monitors.

The existing PMC75 midrange dome was used as a basis for developing the new 50mm soft dome midrange for the fact.12. Ferrofluid cooling around the voice coil enables fact.12 to output high sound pressure levels without fear of thermal damage to the unit.

The fact.12 utilizes a steep 24dB per octave three-way crossover and is the only passive loudspeaker to incorporate a true LF boost setting (i.e. increased from flat). The foundation of the crossover is manufactured from military-grade fibre-glass boards, with hand selected and matched components, chosen after extensive listening tests and used throughout. A double-sided crossover has been employed for the first time to enable signal paths to be kept as short as possible and eradicate interaction between components without compromising the quality and quantity of components used.

Cabinet rigidity is enhanced by the use of a 35mm thick high-density front baffle and a 50mm base. The fact.12 also features extra bracing elements at critical points such as the top panel where the air pressure inside the transmission line has been found to be enormous. This creates an extremely inert structure and ideal platform for the combination of bespoke drive units and ATL to function.

To complement contemporary interior design, a new white silk finish is being introduced across the fact range, in addition to the stunning Rich walnut, Graphite poplar and Tiger ebony veneers currently available.

The fact.12 is now available with pricing details yet to be announced. Look for more information at: www.pmc-speakers.com

Klipsch has just launched the first product in the company’s new Klipsch Music Center series, called the KMC 3 Bluetooth Speaker. The Klipsch Music Center range of products commemorates the brand’s partnership with Live Nation Entertainment and its sponsorship of the Klipsch Music Center amphitheater in Indianapolis —one of the five most ticketed live music venues in the world. Designed to take the concert anywhere, the series of wireless music speakers connect listeners with their favorite artists—without the crowd.

The Klipsch Music Center KMC 3 is an apt-X and AAC Bluetooth-enabled 2.1 system designed for powerful, accurate sound reproductions – designed for static or portable applications. With dual 2-inch, full-range drivers and a dedicated 5.25-inch subwoofer, the KMC 3 promises a detailed sound while creating deep, realistic bass. Completing the lifelike music experience is 130 watts of digital power produced by the system.

The KMC 3 keeps smartphones and tablets charged via a USB input and plays any non-Bluetooth music source through its 3.5mm input. It also remembers up to eight previously connected Bluetooth devices for quick and painless reconnection. The included remote controls volume and muting, as well as most wirelessly connected music sources while they charge and play simultaneously. Operating on battery power when untethered, the KMC 3 utilizes eight D-cell batteries that allow for up to 26 hours of listening.

Available in both a black and white finish, the Klipsch Music Center KMC 3 retails for $399 US and comes with a power supply and cord, 3.5mm to 3.5mm 1M cable and remote with battery. For more info, pleast go to www.klipsch.com. The Klipsch Music Center Stadium will join the series in summer 2013, with additional systems being added throughout 2013 and 2014.

The new Olympica loudspeaker series from Sonus Faber has been created as a homage to master architect Andrea Palladio and his Teatro Olimpico, a monumental theater in Vicenza, Italy. This new range of speakers, designed completely from the ground up, consists of three models called the Olympica I, Olympica II and Olympica III.

Characterized by the use of natural walnut wood, the top and bottom plates are solid walnut. All joints are clear maple wood in the walnut finish, and the more traditional black maple in the graphite finish. The form is a synthesis of the experience gained from the flagship Aida and the classic lyre form. The important difference lies in the asymmetry of the cabinet, introduced here for the first time by Sonus faber. This asymmetry has true purpose: first, it further reduces internal resonances by removing all parallel surfaces. Second, it accommodates the new bass reflex system. The top is covered in natural leather (with feature stitching and a hot-branded Sonus faber logo) and a beveled aluminum ring. The front baffle is covered in natural leather with no visible screws, and the back is also covered in leather with sunken serial number tags and connection terminals below. Lastly, the new side reflex port lies vertically at the back of the speaker. It is covered with a perforated metal grille. For the bookshelf model, a special anodized aluminum stand allows the speaker to be positioned at the correct inclination and, just like the floor models, is equipped with adjustable stainless steel feet to ensure stability and durability.

All Sonus faber Olympica models employ new drivers that have been designed entirely by Sonus faber engineering, including new die-cast baskets that combine rigidity with an ability to remain acoustically transparent. For the diaphragms, as is usual, the use of natural materials such as silk dome for the tweeter and cellulose mixtures for the midrange and woofer prevail. In detail: 29mm dome Tweeter containing DAD technology and neodymium magnet, derived from the development of Aida; 150 mm Midrange with a cone made of a proprietary mixture of cellulose, kapok and kenaf; 180mm Woofer with a cone constructed from a sandwich of cellulose pulp membrane and rigid syntactic foam.

The Crossover is the result of detailed computer research and careful tuning by ear. It is comprised of components selected from the finest international producers. The Bass Reflex system is the innovative soul of this project, and is designed in particular to ensure speed in the articulation and extension of low frequencies. It is a sophisticated approach to Bass Reflex design starting from concepts in aerodynamic management of laminar flow as expressed by Onken and Jensen during the golden age of High Fidelity. These concepts, further evolved by Sonus faber, introduce elements that are profoundly innovative, such as the Stealth Reflex system. Invented by Sonus faber and currently implemented in the models The Sonus faber and Aida, the hyperbolic shape of the duct has led to the ‘duck tail geometry’ of the speaker. Lateral flow ports and the aerodynamic antiturbulence control of airflow in the exit duct through a stainless steel foil are managed by precise holes defined from research in the aeronautic field. Overall, this reflex system with its vertical and lateral laminar output, provides the advantage of allowing you to decide whether to place the speakers with the reflex output pointing in or out, depending on room acoustics or personal taste.

NAD Electronics has just released three new affordable digital products – the D 7050 Direct Digital Network Receiver, D 3020 Digital DAC/Amplifier and D 1050 USB 24/192 DAC.

These three new components have been released now, in part, to commorate NAD’s 40th anniversary. These products represent NAD’s latest generation of digital components and express a fresh new direction in styling and aesthetics – certainly catering to computer-music enthusiasts.

The original NAD 3020 introduced in the 1970’s built a reputation for NAD, having the ability to compete with considerably higher-priced amplifiers of its day. Fast forward to today and the D 3020 starts with the original NAD concept and uses the latest high speed digital technology. The D 3020 features:

• Digital inputs: Asynchronous USB with 24-bit/96kHz capability; coaxial and optical;
• Analog inputs;
• Bluetooth connectivitiy for wireless streaming (Bluetooth aptX);
• 30 watts per channel power output with <0.5W standby power consumption;
• Included IR remote control.

The D 7050 Digital Network Receiver combines NAD’s most advanced digital platform, the Direct Digital technology first introduced in the company’s $6,000 award-winning Masters Series M2 amplifier. Direct Digital means all preamplifier functions occur in the digital domain using sophisticated software to control all aspects of performance. Digital is converted to analog by a simple passive two-pole reconstruction filter located right at the speaker outputs. The design ensures low noise and distortion. Small footprint ensure short signal paths, lending to lower potential for noise and distortion of the digital signal. NAD uses large scale integrated circuits (LSI’s) and multi-layer printed circuit boards to optimize speed and performance. The high efficiency of the Direct Digital amplifier technology significantly reduces the size of the heat sinks and power supply, which are physically large in high performance analog amplifiers, while offering improved sound quality. The result is a cool running, compact powerhouse. Other features include:

• Apple’s AirPlay Wi-Fi streaming;
• UPnP streaming compatitbility;
• Bluetooth High Fidelity Codec aptX;
• Premium quality headphone amplifier output with high quality volume control;
• Direct Digital – with no analog circuits for low noise.

The NAD D 1050 USB DAC caters to many different digital sources, providing S/PDIF inputs that support balanced AES/EBU as well as coaxial and optical connectors. The USB input is asynchronous with a high precision clock that supports USB Audio Codec 2.0 allowing 192 kHz signal transmission. Digital processing is via Delta/Sigma architecture with active oversampling filters for reduced noise, linear phase response and minimal filter ringing in the pass band. Ultra short, impedance-controlled signal paths are made possible by multi-layer circuit boards and micro-miniaturized surface mount components soldered with lead-free, high silver content solder. Analog outputs are fixed and include both balanced and single-ended connections and the there is a premium quality headphone amplifier wtih high quality volume control. Output impedance is extremely low, minimizing the effect of connecting cables and keeping noise extremely low.

Key Common Features of NAD’s D Series Digital Audio Products:

• Energy-Saving– new design technology consumes less power to operate;
• Eco-Friendly – new models contain fewer non-renewable resources to manufacture;
• Stylish Simplicity Through Advanced Design – stylish yet timelessindustrial design by David Farrage of DF-ID;
• Vertically or horizontal placement.

All three new digital products are currently available for per-order and will be available in July 2013 at the following pricing: The D 7050 Direct Digital Network Receiver ($999 U.S. MSRP); D 3020 Digital DAC/Amplifier ($499) and D 1050 USB 24/192 DAC ($499). Look for more details at: www.nadelectronics.com.

Wilson Audio has just released their successor to their Duette Series, the Duette Series-2. The Duette Series-2 has been designed to be an audiophile-grade stand-mount loudspeaker that can has great flexibility with room placement. The tweeter of the former Duette Series has been enhanced in the new Duette Series-2 through the incorporation of a rear wave chamber, which comes from Wilson’s Convergent Synergy Tweeter. The rear tweeter baffle design has been taken from the Alexia loudspeaker. The result is substantially reduced chamber-born diffraction, reduced distortion and lower noise floor, resulting in greater resolution.

The Series-2 uses an all new cabinet with an angled time-aligned front baffle, having a rake of about 10°. This angled baffle serves to align the tweeter and the woofer to produce improved time alignment and driver integration at the listening postion. New construction materials are used in the Series-2 cabinet, including, Wilson’s proprietary composite, X-material, combined with internal bracing and a baffle built from Wilson’s newest S-material composite.

A simplified design allows the new Series-2 to deliver increased perfromance across a wider range of applications. This new Duette is optimized for vertical placement and has receptacles in the base that accept a diode foot, which facilitates attachment to the new Series-2 Dedicated Stand. A stand that has been designed to integrate the separate Novel crossover and umbilical. The new stand bolts directly to the speaker with the intention reducing unwanted resonances.

The Wilson Audio Duette Series-2 loudspeaker will be available June 2013, pricing has not been announced. Look for more details at: www.wilsonaudio.com

Denon’s new Setup Assistant guides you through every step of the process quickly and easily, using an enhanced GUI that provides easy-to-follow instructions. Additionally, the front panel displays use easy-to-read characters to increase visibility from across the room. Finally, IN-Command series receivers are built to be more compact, with less chassis depth for easier installation in tight spaces. All four units feature convenient front panel HDMI inputs for connecting a camcorder or game console, plus front USB inputs for quick and easy connection of your portable device.

All four new Denon IN-Command home theater receivers are controllable via a Smartphone using the Denon Remote App, so users can control almost every aspect of their multimedia experience, including browsing Internet radio and files on a media server, playlist creation, volume, input selection, surround sound modes multi zone control and menu navigation.

Here is a brief look at each of Denon’s new IN-Command home theater receivers and their specialized features:

7.2-Channel AVR-X4000: The Ultimate Performer
The leading-edge Denon AVR-X4000 A/V receiver delivers ultimate quality sound and images through its 7.2 receiver channels (fully discrete, with identical quality and power for all channels, 125 W x 7 ch), plus a wealth of features for enjoying music or video programs, such as 4K Ultra HD upscaling. In addition to AirPlay, it offers playback of Internet radio, music stored on a networked PC or hard disk as well as HD audio (up to 192 kHz) music sources. Digital multi-zone functionality lets everyone in the home enjoy music or video entertainment in separate rooms, while the main program runs in the living room (multi-room, 5.1channel receiver sound with separate stereo audio in a 2nd or 3rd room).

The AVR-X4000 features enhanced surround processing via Audyssey DSX and DTS Neo:X, to dramatically enhanced surround sound experience with front height and front wide speaker configurations. The advanced surround sound capabilities of the AVR-X4000 can be expanded to a maximum of 9.2 channels by adding a separate power amp.

The unit’s Audyssey MultEQ XT32 and Audyssey Sub EQ HT Dual subwoofer EQ calibration system makes it simple and straightforward to maximize home theater performance for any size or configuration of room. Via the supplied microphone, MultEQ measures the characteristics of each speaker in the system (including the subwoofer) and quickly generates precision digital filters for the smoothest, most natural tonal balance over the entire audio range. Additionally, Audyssey Dynamic EQ improves surround effects at lower volume levels, Audyssey Dynamic Volume stabilizes volume levels for consistent sound, and Audyssey LFC solves the problem of low frequency sounds disturbing people in adjacent rooms

The AVR-X4000 receiver features 3 HDMI outputs and 7 HDMI inputs, including one on the front panel that allows for easy connection of a camcorder or game console. There are two outputs for main room video (such as a projector and a flat screen TV), and one output for multi-room video in a second room with the same or a different source.

AVR-X3000: Immersive Sound and Images
The AVR-X3000 home theater receiver is ideal for enjoying both 3D video and immersive surround sound. Its powerful 7-channel amplifier (105 W x 7 channels) delivers a rich, enveloping surround soundfield. Like the AVR-X4000, it offers digital multi-zone functionality for enjoying music or video entertainment from separate sources in different rooms, as well as Audyssey DSX and DTS Neo:X for front height or front wide effects channels. The unit’s 1080P and 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) upconversion ensures maximum picture quality, and the analog to HDMI video conversion lets you run just one HDMI cable to the HDTV. A special digitally transmitted play function for iPod and iPhone (via USB) ensures optimum sound quality, with high-performance 192kHz/24-bit D/A converters for all channels. Enhancing audio performance even further, Denon’s proprietary Compressed Audio Restorer restores sound quality from compressed music sources such as MP3 tracks.

AVR-X2000: High-Performance, Dazzling Video Performance
The AVR-X2000’s advanced video circuitry is capable of upscaling video signals to 4K Ultra HD (3840×2160 pixels), reproducing images that are dazzlingly vibrant and sharp. Expanding the audio capabilities, users can assign 2 channels of the AVR-X2000’s 7-channel amplifier to provide power for stereo speakers located in another room. Fully discrete, identical quality and power is available for all 7 channels (95 W x 7 channel), with high-performance 192kHz/24-bit D/A converters for all channels. It also features Audyssey MultEQ XT, Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Audyssey Dynamic Volume.

AVR-X1000: Great Value and Leading-Edge Features
The AVR-X1000 A/V surround receiver is a high-value, high-performance unit with many of the same features and capabilities of Denon’s higher priced receivers. It supports 1080P and 3D video pass-through, includes multi-zone capability and fully discrete, identical quality and power for all 5 channels (80 W x 5 channels), as well as Audyssey MultEQ XT, Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Audyssey Dynamic Volume. Denon’s proprietary Compressed Audio Restorer is also included for enhanced sound performance.
